Freddy's Stadium Route

Hey Fans! Make sure you don't miss me on your next visit to the stadium!

A long time ago when I first started this, I talked with Mr. Kraft, a man who was working in the Yankee's communication department at the time, and told him I thought that nobody's cheering. I asked if it was possible to bring one of my signs to get some fans to cheer and wake up the Yanks. He said as long as you don't bother the fans or interfere with the game, go ahead.

The first year it was the children who wanted to hit the pan. Most children get bored easily at the games, so they thought it was fun. The adults, however, were a different story. Some people cursed me and told me to get away. I'm not going to say the four-letter words they said, but you can imagine. They gave it to me good that first year! One guy even tried to beat me up and another tried to rip up my sign.

Next year, the grown-ups started to come up to me and say: "Can I take a picture with you?", "Can you sign an autograph?" and "Can I bang the pan?". Boy, that was a beautiful opening day when I heard that. It was so gratifying that people were paying attention to me and understanding what I was trying to do.

I have a basic pattern that I follow around the stadium. Usually you just have to listen for the banging pan, but if you want to be 100% sure you don't miss me....here's my route:

The first three innings I start in the Upper Deck because the fans are so enthusiastic up there.

The middle three innings I make my way through the Loge Section.

The last three innings I finish in the Main Section. Funny thing is by the time the 7th and 8th innings roll around, the fans all know me and chant my name. I say to them, "Don't cheer me, wake up the Yanks! They're the ones we came to see!"
